Dear Residents:
Custer County, Lost River Highway District and the cities of Challis, Mackay and Stanley joined together in 2006 to develop the Custer County Transportation Master Plan. An update to the original 2007 Transportation Master Plan was completed in September 2013 and adopted by the Board of District Commissioners and the other local road agencies in 2013. The 2024 Transportation Master Plan Update only includes Lost River Highway District (LRHD).
Since June of 2023, the LRHD has collected new transportation system data, completed various Capital Improvement Projects, updated their roadway maintenance strategies and identified new transportation system deficiencies and needs.
The intent of the LRHD 2024 Transportation Master Plan Update is to re-evaluate the transportation system needs within the jurisdictional boundaries of the district and provide guidance for their use in developing system improvements over the next several years.
Components of the Transportation Master Plan Update include transportation system data collection by agency staff, meetings with elected officials and staff, identification of transportation system needs and deficiencies, prioritization of system improvement projects and development of a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for LRHD.
To ensure the final plan meets LRHD residents' needs, we are requesting that you take a moment and share with us your thoughts on the existing condition of the roads and the service they provide. Please include your thoughts on what you believe the roads and transportation system for the LRHD should provide in the future.
On behalf of LRHD we appreciate your comments and interest in planning for continued improvements throughout the County.
To provide input on the LRHD Transportation Plan, please complete the questionnaire form on the right of this page, or you can mail inquiries to:
